Bachelor of Science, Business Administration
Director of Data Management Group, American Family Insurance
Tamara Knickmeier says she's " probably the last weekend degree student to finally finish getting her degree, something she accomplished early in 2010. The Weekend Degree program began what has since become the College's Adult Accelerated Degree program, which allows students who have multiple demands on their time (work and family, for example) to complete an undergraduate degree according to their own personal timeline.
She started " back in the 90's on her time, taking classes as she was able, fitting them in between work and home life. She's been employed at American Family Insurance for almost twenty years.
Tamara finished her coursework more than five years ago, and had just her Human Issues requirement left to complete. Working with Kris Mickelson, Director of Human Issues, she completed " Why Can't They All Speak English?" her research project on the challenges surrounding immigration in the U.S.
So how does it feel, now that she's accomplished the goal of a degree from Edgewood College?
" It feels great. I have been able to spend some time giving back to the community through coaching a Girls on the Run program and becoming a board member of the Lake Waubesa Conservation Association.
